The Vegan's Guide to Holistic Therapy

We live in a day and age when people are increasingly becoming interested in wellness therapies and healing modalities outside of the mainstream.

As a professional Holistic Therapist, I've been lucky enough to try many different alternatives to mainstream treatments provided by doctors and the allopathic health service.

I firmly believe that Holistic Therapy should be used alongside allopathic medicine. Much as the pros and cons of any pharmaceuticals should be carefully considered, I feel it would be extremely foolish to throw the proverbial baby out with the bathwater.

The rising number of people training in various alternative methods of healing and wellness is testament to people's need and desire to find better ways to take care of themselves.

Whilst many of these treatments are "natural" they aren't necessarily vegan friendly, so that's what I wanted to address today.

Many of the hands on on energy healing types of treatments are totally vegan friendly which makes them a great option if you are an ethical vegan.

Hopi Ear Candling

As a trained Hopi Ear Candling practitioner, I am often frustrated at how difficult it is to obtain vegan friendly ear candles. It's nigh on impossible, and the ones that are available may not be of a suitable therapeutic grade. It's a very good therapy that has been very helpful to me personally, for difficult to treat conditions including glue ear and viral labrynthitis. Ear candling was able to provide me with  solutions where my doctors were not.

Ear Candles are usually made with beeswax and honey extract, and although it is possible to make them with soya wax or parrafin wax, I am yet to find a suitable vegan friendly product on sale in the UK.

I was trained using Biosun ear candles which are the best ones on the market with the most rigourous safety testing. I have contacted Biosun head office in Germany, asking if they have any plans to bring out a vegan range, but they have not got back to me at the time of publishing this article.

Shamanic Healing

This is one that you should be aware of if you're an ethical vegan. Shamanic healing varies greatly from one practitioner to the next, but you need to be aware that some of their equipment may be made from animal hides, fur or even bones. If that fills you wilth horror, then you may wish to steer clear!

It's best to have a chat with the practitioner beforehand to make sure they can meet your needs. There are vegan practitioners out there and there are many alternatives to the traditional tools made from animal products.
